Żejt iż-Żejtun – The week after

Although a whole week has passed since the Żejt iż-Żejtun activity was held, the people kept on talking about the success of this year’s event during the past week.

People from various parts of Malta and tourists came en mass particularly on Saturday evening and literally packed every corner of not just the centre of Zejtun, but also the minor squares on the fringes of the village in which various performances were running at the same time.

Besides the five places in which performances were running, there were a number of artisans exhibiting their work behind the parish church and along Triq San Girgor.  A lot of traditional food was also served in various areas, and people had also the possibility to taste the freshly pressed olive oil with Maltese bread.

There was strong participation by most of the Zejtun organisations and societies and the full collaboration of the Zejtun people in this event.  In fact a good number of exhibitions were organised in various locations and some also opened their doors to the public.  The people had also the possibility to visit a number of historical places some of which have been opened especially for the occasion.

Wirt iż-Żejtun participated in this activity by a photography exhibition under the theme “Focusing on Zejtun’s Heritage” which saw the participation of a number of photographers portraying a cross-section of our cultural identity.  The exhibition was visited by hundreds of people and we had very positive response from those visiting it.
