On the 10th of May, 1744, Bishop Alpheran de Bussan dedicated (“consecrated”) the new parish church, which was still under construction, to St. Catherine of Alexandria.
This day is celebrated annually during the evening mass at the same church. A series of candles on brackets are also hung in front of the marble crosses fixed to the main pilasters along the aisle and transepts of the church.
This important day in the history of Zejtun and the parish church is documented inside the church by a marble inscription found right above the entrance into the naive on the northern side of the church.
