Today was the last day on our roads for the colourful Malta buses, some of which have been serving our country since the end of World War II.
Although the public transport was highly criticised in the past years for its not so efficient service, one cannot deny the fact that the vintage buses were a main tourist attraction.
Some remember a more colourful bus fleet with each route having its own colours until all buses were changed to green and later to yellow. The Zejtun bus was mainly red with a green fascia just under the row of windows.
Today all this is now history and part of our past heritage. We sincerely hope that some of the best examples of these old buses will be preserved and look forward for an interested entrepreneur to invest in restoring them and use them for sight-seeing tours as was done with the London double- deckers.
Good-bye Malta bus!
