The traditional procession known as St Gregory’s was cancelled early this morning due to forcasts of bad weather.
The procession was planned to start at 9:30 from the chapel of St. Clement and usually included the Chapter of the Mdina Cathedral and the Archbishop. The procession traditionally, on its way to the Old Parish Church of Zejtun, stops for a while at St Catherine’s Parish Church. At the end of the procession, mass is usually celebrated at the Old Parish Church, known as St Gregory’s.
This church, although administered by the Zejtun Parish, still forms part of the Prebenda tal-Kantur of the Cathedral’s Chapter. Traditionally it is said that this chuch was chosen by the Cathedral Chapter as the ending place of the procession, since at that time it was the most distant parish church from the Mdina Cathedral.
Today, the religious celebration of St. Gregory’s Feast was limited to the celebration of mass at the Old Parish Church late in the morning.
