NEWS: Supporting student projects

Wirt iż-Żejtun has always supported students in their assignments or projects if and when they decide to choose a subject which is related to our cultural or natural heritage.

Ms Caterina Vella went even a step further. She decided to carry out her Systems of Knowledge project about our organisation and attended a number of activities which we had organised prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Among these was the tree planting initiative which was held last year with the support of The Grow 10 Trees Project and the Żejtun Local Council.

She has also wrote this poem as part of her project:

Nifs
Iż-żiffa tar-riħ tnewwaħli f’wiċċi,
Titfali ħarsti lejn id-dalma tas-smewwiet,
Fejn nintilef f’karba u niċċassa,
U nosserva n-numri jsiru rmied.

Niċkien bil-mod il-mod qalb id-dulluvju,
Filwaqt li l-menti tassorbi l-inkwiet.
Għax ruħi mbikkma tirresisti,
Dak in-nifs imcaħħad tal-imwiet.

Hekk kif il-qamar jifga mar-rezħa tal-lejl,
L-istess lin-nifs nagħtu l-aħħar tislima.
Sabiex infakkru l-memorji tal-qraba,
Lil-maħbub nifs noffru l-akbar qima.

In-numri jiżdiedu bil-galbu,
U mas-swidija ta’ nofs il-lejl,
Qalbhom tfawwar il-baħħ,
U n-nifs jisparixxi fix-xej’.

Filwaqt li l-injuranza fl-imħuħ tforni,
Il-fejqan, issa miraklu spiritwali,
Jikkumbatti l-falliment tax-xjenza,
Li issa hi attentat fatali.

Hekk kif in-nuqqas ta’ nifs ghal-bejgħ,
Isir kilba makabra tal-ossessjoni,
Issa s-siġar jitmewwtu ġmielhom,
U jitkattru, frott l-erożjoni.

Madanakollu, għad jasal dak iż-żmien,
Fejn fil-ġisem tinbet ir-respirazzjoni,
U filwaqt li jbaħħar il-bnazzi fl-għodwa,
Neqirdu kull sinjal ta’ disperazzjoni.

Sadanittant, mad-dakra taż-żerniq,
L-għasafar jiżżewwqu f’melodija,
Fejn hekk kif ix-xemx tibda tiżreġ,
Tgħeb għal kollox din il-pandemija.
