The annual celebrations of the Holy Week came to an end today with the feast of Risen Christ. These celebration are at heart of the Żejtun people and are very well attended.
Preparations for this weeks start even before the beginning of Lent, with enthusiasts helping in the setting up of the statues in the parish church and others preparing the displays and reenactments of the Last Supper.
The peak of these celebrations are reached on Good Friday with people from other local towns and villages and tourists fill every corner along the route of the procession. During the morning and on Thursday evening others come to visit the displays and reenactments held at the Beland Band Club, the Zejtun Band Club and in the parish church crypt.
The celebrations continue by the procession of Risen Christ on Sunday morning accompanied by the two local bands playing Easter Waltzes. However at Żejtun, the Holy Week celebrations are extended to the first Wednesday after Easter when the traditional Feast of St Gregory is celebrated at Żejtun and Marsaxlokk.
