The Research Programme for the Study of Late Medieval and Early Renaissance Art (Department of History of Art, University of Malta) has completed a conservation exercise on one of the finest Early Renaissance paintings in Malta – The Enthroned Madonna and Child at the Żejtun Parish Church. The restoration is supported by Banif Bank (Malta) plc.
The work comes from the inner circle of Antonello da Messina and represents the Enthroned Madonna and Child.
It is the surviving central panel of a triptych, commissioned for the old parish church of Żejtun around the first decade of the sixteenth century.
Thus us another important treasure forming part of the Żejtun heritage.
