This morning the Zejtun Local Council held its annual commemoration ceremony in tribute to the World War II victims of the 2nd May 1942 tragedy in front of the main parish church.

The commemoration was lead by the Mayor Mr Joe Attard in the presence of the vice-Mayor, Councillors and representatives from committees of local societies and clubs.
After an introductory speech by Councillor Anthony Seychell, Mr Joe Baldacchino read a poem he wrote about this tragedy. The Mayor gave a short speech on the significance of this commemoration and prayers were led by Rev Erci Overend, Archpriest of Zejtun. Flowers were then placed in front of the marble inscription at the corner of Misraħ ir-Repubblika.
